Why do I need to drink only juices and not eat while on a cleanse program?
The reason for not eating during a juice cleanse is to give the colon and entire digestive system a break so that it does not use energy to digest new foods entering the body, but rather flush out the built up foods and toxins that have not previously been absorbed by the body. The reason for drinking juice is to give the body nutrients without digestible material.
If I went on a juice cleanse, where would my protein come from?
Vegetables DO contain protein. For example spinach has about 1g of protein per cup and broccoli has about 2g per cup. But if you are concerned about proteins you can add a powdered spirulina/wheatgrass type supplement to your juice.

How would I know if my juice is bad, rotten or spoiled?
Although not a perfect test, your senses are usually the most reliable instruments to tell if your juice has gone bad. Some common traits of bad juice are discoloration, sour smell (don’t drink it!) and finally the growth of mold (way too late). The sour smell is usually the first indication, if the juice smells sour it will taste sour. When micro-organisms in air enter the juice container they begin to ferment the fruit which changes the flavor and the aroma of the juice. This process may even cause the container to swell and possibly burst. So, if your juice begins to smell like vinegar, wine, beer, or alcohol be sure to discard it.
